What Legacy Will You Leave?
We will all die one day, and what you do here and now will ultimately determine the impact you have on the Earth during your stay. So, what legacy will you leave?
This morning, as I sit at my desk with a warm cup of coffee, I find myself surrounded by the comfort of my bedroom, a comfort that brings me joy. But it also feels selfish, knowing that many lack this comfort in the world. Suddenly, I am filled with a strong sense of ambition, a desire to share this joy with others. From this small desk, I aim to impact the masses. Yet, as my mind floods with ideas to do some good in the world, doubt creeps in. Thoughts of self-importance, vanity, and greed arise. How could little ol’ me change anything?
What is a legacy? It is the long-lasting impact of our actions on the people and environment around us over the course of our lives. The more people we touch and the larger the environment we influence, the bigger the impact. Legacy is the relationships we build over our lifetime, the professional achievements we garner through years of dedication, and the principles and values we pass on to loved ones, helping them build character. It is the community that remembers you.

The concept of legacy should be important to us all. Generations to come can remember what we have done here. We have the opportunity to etch our names in stone. Someone, somewhere, could hear your story and be inspired to use their own talents to take the world further than anyone could imagine. That someone could be one of your children, taking the company you built from the ground up to a multi-billion-dollar valuation. It could be a student who learned a skill from you and went on to invent something great. We have the opportunity to be intentional in shaping the future.
The challenges that plague society can deter us from building a legacy. Some may fall into addiction, while others may live promiscuously, producing unfocused or even destructive offspring. Some may find themselves in prison for life. Living a distracted life could leave you feeling unfulfilled on your last day, a tragedy. Imagine the regret of realizing you never gave life your all. You’d ask yourself, “Why didn’t I…?” The choice is ours to do what we can.
For me, the time is now. I will leave this world knowing I did all the things my heart desired. I may not complete every task or follow through on every course, but I promise you, I will try. I will give my all to the world until the world knows my name.
In conclusion, I ask you to ponder the concept of legacy. What will you be remembered for? How would you like people to speak of you when your name comes up in conversation?
