STOP PLAYING
There is this idea in the United States that young people should play, make mistakes, and have fun in their twenties and get serious about life later. Anyone with some age with wisdom will tell you that is wrong. Stop playing with life sooner if you want to be successful sooner.
There is a misconception in our culture that we have time. However, when you put things in perspective, you only have about forty working years before you are eligible for retirement. By the time you have left grade school you are about one fourth through your life. The United States of America will sell you the dream of college, job, marriage, white picketed fence, and a baby carriage. Most young people are made to believe that this is real life, and they must have as much fun as possible before real life starts. I am here to convince you to stop playing.
When you get through college, you will be around 22-25 years old. At this age, you are still young and not very mature. Most of you have zero clue about life because you have been institutionalized and indoctrinated. The best advice people can muster is get a job. By now, most of you will have realized how unfulfilling it is to work forty hours a week waiting on a two-week vacation granted to you from your employer like a gift for your efforts. Deep down you know someone conned you to hop on the hamster wheel of death with promises of grandeur and success.
I am not that other person that is going to give you the inverse USA scheme. I will not tell you “Fuck school” and advise you to travel the world. Or take some years off and go back later. It is always harder to go back to college later, especially to a good regionally accredited college such as a state college. I am not going to tell you that you should not go to college if there is training there that is necessary for that field you are entering. These two trains of thought are problematic because advice like this can hinder a young person before they get off to a good start in life.
Here’s the deal, college pursuit is a business sold to the population like credit cards or time shares. There is a racket that is borderline criminal being operated by the Department of Education down to the financial aid office in your local community college. You are being given a loan that is often larger than a car loan and likely only second to a mortgage on a home for a degree that is not appraisable. How? At 18 no person can walk into a bank and get a personal loan of that size. It seems everyone is in on the joke but you. The loans must go through The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) offered by the US federal government. At 25 years old, you are on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars to the federal government.
When I say stop playing, I mean take the decisions you make at the initial stages of being an adult seriously. Get with some well-meaning adults and come up with a working plan for the first ten years of adulthood. This plan should include what you want your lifestyle to be and the best path to get there. At this point, it is not about finding your passion and being happy from work. That will ensure disappointment. Base your fulfillment on reaching goals. You should focus on maintaining your health and building a financial nest egg to be stable in life.
- Learn a skill to earn money. Chasing your passion is overrated. Learn something and become great at it. Then, sell it to people.
- Stay out of debt. If you save $10 but owe $100 you have a net worth of $-90.
- Save $5,000 wealth fund. Keep it liquid in a bank account or minimal risk investment account.
- Focus on stability. Keep a car. Buy/rent a home. Keep the lights on, gas in the car, food in the refrigerator, and clothes on your back.

If you are a young person, you should avoid known obstacles to success.
- Avoid marriage and children in the early years. If you have not taken the previously stated precautionary measures, do not bring another human into this world. Do not allow another person that is smitten with thoughts of love and happiness to convince you that a child is a promising idea if you are not financially or emotionally prepared to care for the life of another human being for the rest of their life.
- Avoid losers. Sorry but not sorry. Some people are not focused and tend to find themselves in precarious situations often. These types of people usually abuse some type of substance or another. They will drag you down. If nothing else, they have little to offer you for your time.
- Avoid the idea that you should not be working. This is not the time to fuck off your time. Get everything together early. Get stable. Get some money. When all your friends are 30 years old and trying to reconfigure their lives, your work will be paying off.
In conclusion, stop playing with your life. You only get one. It is so easy to get distracted. Women will want your time. The businesses want your money. Go to school to get the knowledge to do a thing. Do not take on student loans without first understanding their value to you in the future. Do not go into debt for frivolous products. Focus on stability and financial freedom early and be free in your later years.
